OCT 2006 REPORT ON TROPICAL FORESTS 

"At Loggerheads? Agricultural Expansion, Poverty Reduction and Environment in the Tropical Forests" highlights that preserving rapidly shrinking tropical forests and improving economic prospects for millions of poor people requires better national forest governance. Press Release , Q& A

Current carbon markets do not tap the potential benefits of forest carbon, the report says. It calls for forest carbon trading to be allowed in global carbon markets, saying that this is a strong financial incentive to avoid deforestation. It offers workable solutions for the obstacles impeding forest carbon.
