Summary: This report discusses recent economic developments in St. Kitts and Nevis and proposes measures to promote future growth of the economy in light of gradual deterioration of public sector finances over the past five years. It proposes a program of financial austerity with the aim of restoring positive public sector savings. It addresses alternate means of securing additional tax revenues, development of long-term agricultural diversification policy that includes a long-term land use program, efficiency-enhancing measures and institutional reorganization to offset financial difficulties in the sugar sector, and government policies with respect to the manufacturing and tourism sectors.
