Summary: This statistical handbook, the fourth in the series, represents a major compilation of data on the economies of the fifteen independent states of the former Soviet Union. Beginning with the 1993 edition and continuing this year, the Bank collected the data from the countries of the former Soviet Union through a standard set of tables it provided to their national statistical agencies. These tables include macroeconomic data, population and labor force statistics, foreign trade data, monetary and government finance statistics, data on agricultural and industrial production, information on prices and wages, and household income and expenditure statistics. The data presented form the basis for the Bank's economic and sectoral analyses of these countries. Like in previous years, this edition contains a set of comparative tables for cross-country comparisons. The country tables present data mostly in monetary or physical units, and the comparative tables give data primarily as indexes or percentages. In keeping with the objective of making the Bank's data and analysis of the region more accessible to policymakers and analysts in the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union. This edition is being issued as a bilingual English-Russian publication.
