XIAOYANG CHEN is an Economist in the Development Research Group, Trade and International Integration Unit. Her current research focuses on various aspects of multinational production and foreign direct investment (FDI), including the role of FDI in economic performance during the global financial crisis, the agglomeration of multinational firms, and the effect of multinational production on knowledge spillovers and market reallocations. She has also studied issues of regional trade agreements, evaluating both the causes of growing regionalism and the effect of regional economic integration on trade and FDI. Her analysis on FDI and regionalism covers a wide range of emerging and industrial countries spanning from Europe, East Asia, to Latin America. In addition to FDI and regionalism, Chen has also worked on topics related to intellectual property rights and firm-level performance in China. Chen received her M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from University of Colorado at Boulder and a B.A. in economics from Beijing Normal University.
