World Development Report 2007: Development & the Next Generation

Consultations at the global level on the WDR 2007 took place with members of the YDP Network, youth organizations, and governmental and non-governmental partners with relevant youth expertise in a series of global consultations that began with a partners meeting at the United Nations in New York in September 2005 and continued with subsequent meetings and a six-week global e-discussion hosted by the World Bank on the themes of the World Development Report. The e-discussion was carried on simultaneously in French and Spanish by la Francophonie and La Organisacion Ibero-Americana de la Juventud. Global youth commentary was gathered using the World Bank's website for youth, Youthink, in order to get a wide-ranging opinions from young individuals and the public at large.

The global consultations were conducted in order to:

  • Validate ideas with youth activists
  • Gather information on youth-led activities worldwide
  • Provide a forum where youth practitioners and youth themselves could share knowledge and experience
  • To provide an on-line forum where interested young people could express their views about the WDR, and especially of innovative ideas and solutions
  •  To have the WDR team hear the wide-ranging opinions of young individuals
