This World Bank research program covers a broad set of issues, including land policies, community driven development, irrigation and water resources management, agricultural technology diffusion, rural finance, rural and national infrastructure, motorization, rural-urban migration, economic geography and urban development, industrial and agricultural pollution, environmental health, land use and ecosystem preservation, and climate change.
Through its in-house Spatial Analysis Unit, the team has also developed a strong capability in the spatial analysis of economic issues including the use of GIS.

An important aspect of this research agenda is its focus on adaptation to climate change – an issue that has received increasing attention since Kyoto. For most UNFCCC parties with relatively low emissions, adaptation is the critical challenge in framing policies that respond to climate change. Full article
