| ADePT is an integrated set of programs that allows users to produce tables and graphs in different areas of economic research (Poverty, Labor, Gender, Social Protection, Education, etc). |

| No. ADePT is a tool for analyzing existing datasets. Example data are for demonstration only. We provide no real data with ADePT. |

| ADePT produces output in Excel format. |

| What does ADePT output consist of? |
| ADePT produces one output file per run which contains tables and graphs, for a particular module, original data report, and errors and notifications. Optionally, tables of standard errors and frequencies can be added to the report. |

| Can I create customized tables? |
| ADePT produces a set of predefined tables. Any table can be restricted by specifying if-conditions. We are constantly working on expanding and modifying tables, therefore your suggestions are welcomed. |

| Installation |
| What Operating System is required to run ADePT? |
| ADePT requires Microsoft Windows to be installed on your computer. It has been tested with Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Server and Windows Vista and will work in 32 and 64-bit environments. We have no immediate plans to develop ADePT for Mac or Linux OS, but users of these systems can run ADePT via virtualization. One will need to create a virtual machine with the help of one of the emulators available, install Microsoft Windows and other dependencies to the virtual machine, then install ADePT to the virtual machine. |

| Do I need Stata to operate ADePT? |
| No, Stata is no longer required. NBS (Numerics by Stata) is provided. |

| How do I update ADePT? |
| In order to update ADePT you click Help > Check for updates. If there is a new version of ADePT available you will be prompted to update it. You can also check the status of ADePT components by choosing <Show details>. |

| Do I need administrator rights to install ADePT? |
| No, you do not need admin rights to install ADePT. |

| Where is the ADePT Maps module? |
| ADePT Maps is not part of the main ADePT program. In order to install the Maps module please go to ADePT > Documentation > ADePT Maps module webpage for extensive instructions. |

| Why do I get a “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135).” error? |
| ADePT requires Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 or later to be installed. If your computer does not contain .Net Framework 2.0 or later, please install .Net Framework from the Microsoft website. |

| How do I check if my computer has .Net Framework installed? |
To check if your computer has .Net Framework installed, navigate Windows Explorer to the folder where Windows is installed (typically C:\Windows\), and proceed to folder Microsoft.Net, then Framework. There will be several subfolders in this folder with names like 1.0.3705, 1.1.4322 and so on. The largest version shows the newest version of installed .Net Framework. If you don’t have any of these folders, your computer does not have Microsoft .Net Framework. In that case, please download and install .Net Framework from the Microsoft’s website, otherwise ADePT will fail to start with an error message “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.” or its equivalent in the local language. |

| Working with ADePT |
| Do I need to prepare my datasets? |
| Some preparations are required in order to produce output with ADePT. For example, in the Poverty module the user needs to provide a constructed welfare indicator, poverty lines, etc. ADePT provides limited indications on the quality of the data, but this functionality of ADePT is not a substitute for the careful cleaning and checking of data. |

| Why am I not getting an output report? |
| ADePT can detect a fatal error (a missing variable, for example) which will terminate the program. In this case you need to check dataset in Stata to make sure that all variables are assigned correctly. Also, ADePT can produce an output file but outline errors in the notification tab. Make sure to always check notifications to ensure that produced output is correct. |

| What to do if I experience problems? |
| Run ADePT in debug module - go to Tools > Debug mode. Click Generate and ADePT will produce a file containing error messages, user messages, output report and other information. Note that it will not contain the dataset used. This file is crucial for analyzing problems - please include it with your request to help us promptly address the problem. |

| How does ADePT handle missing values? |
If any variables have missing values, then the corresponding observations will be excluded from the output of any table using them. However, they will not be excluded form overall analysis. If notation for missing values is different from the standard Stata notation (“.”, “.a”, “.b”… “.z”) it must be recoded by going to the Missing Values tab on the variables definition form and assigning corresponding values. |

| I have received a warning/error message during the data check. Can I ignore it? |
| ADePT conducts checks on provided data to ensure that thay are reliable. If your data do not satisfy inbuilt thresholds, ADePT will bring your attention to it. In this case you should always check your data for accuracy and then decide either to ignore the warning or not. Please refer to module-specific manuals for further explanation on specific errors. |

| Can I load a project saved in one module into another? |
| Yes. Once you load the project ADePT will automatically fill in variable fields that exist in both modules. |

| How can I change the graph produced by ADePT? |
| ADePT produces graphs in vector format (.EMF) and includes them in the final report in MS Excel format. You can format these graphs after ungrouping them (right click mouse > grouping > ungroup) and then perform such basic operations as label changes, color adjustments, etc. |

| How can I send my project to a colleague? |
| You need to send your project’s .ini file and all the corresponding data files in a zip-archive. In order to open the project ADePT requires these files to be unpacked into the same folder. |

| How to use survey settings |
| ADePT survey settings window replicates the one in Stata and supports the same functions. Please refer to Stata manual [SVY]svyset for further information on specifying data survey settings. |

| In the ADePT Maps module regions on the map are not being colored after the first launch |
You need to turn the legend off and then back on by pressing the corresponding button on the toolbar or selecting the corresponding Menu item. |

| Using ADePT for New Surveys |
ADePT is a powerful tool for the analysis of survey data. ADePT produces sets of results in various areas of economics with minimal requirements for the data preparation. Nevertheless, some work is needed to load data into the program. It is possible to minimize this work by designing survey questionnaires that would fit directly into ADePT. The matrix below shows the variables that are used in each module of ADePT. When designing a questionnaire for a new survey we recommend consulting that matrix for the variables that could be added to the questionnaire in order to utilize ADePT to process the data from the new survey. It also might be cost effective to add several extra variables into the new survey in order to produce a report on the subject that was not covered in the previous surveys. For example, by including just a few variables on educational attainments and school enrollment into the survey questionnaire, a very rich and informative report on education could be produced using ADePT. All extra variables and their effect on the output report are described in this file. |
