Describes the design of the survey and its coverage for potential users and provides general information about the general characteristics of the 1991 PIHS Survey. It also discusses the data files and constructed variables.
|Household (Male/Female) Questionnaire|
This questionnaire is an essential tool for using the 1991 PIHS data sets. It was used to collect various information about household activities. One important characteristics of this questionnaire is that for some sections of the survey, it was split in to two parts: Male and Female. For questions pertaining specifically to female members of a household, interviews were conducted by female interviewers using the Female Questionnaire; and for those questions more relevant to male members of the household, Male questionnaires were used.
|Community Level Questionnaire|
This questionnaire is also another essential tool for using the 1991 PIHS data sets. It was used to collect community level information such as economy and infrastructure, health, education and prices of various items.

|Interviewers Manual Part I-Field Operations (pak04)|
The Interviewer's Manual contains detailed information that serves as a basic reference guide for PIHS interviewers. It sets a standardized way of interviewing respondents and collecting information. Part I (Field Operations) includes overview of the PIHS, its objectives, methodology and organization of the survey; defines the role of the interviewer and provides specific guidelines and instructions in field activities.

The Interviewer's Manual contains detailed information that serves as a basic reference guide for PIHS interviewers. It sets a standardized way of interviewing respondents and collecting information. Part II (The Questionnaire) defines the organization, formats, and layout of the household questionnaire and its different sections or modules. It proceeds section by section, defining the purpose of the section and the type of the data to be collected, the respondent(s) involved, and detailed instructions for filling out the questionnaire.
