Research Highlights 2008 (published in April 2009) offers a brief account of the activities of the Development Research Group, the World Bank’s principal research unit.
The year started with the steep rises in food and fuel prices, and ended with a global financial crisis. The report opens with a note from the Director reflecting on the financial crisis and its implications for our research program looking forward.
The report highlights a number of research outputs in 2008, which reflect the breadth and depth of research programs on finance and private sector development, human development and public services, macroeconomics and growth, poverty and inequality, sustainable development, and trade and international integration, all directed toward the World Bank's ultimate objective of reducing poverty in a fiscally, environmentally, and socially sustainable manner.
