* Note: Data on the 'global middle class' were mislabled in the GEP overview (p. xvi) and in Chapter 3 (pp. 69 and 64). The figure in the overview illustrating trends in the growth of the middle class provides estimates for 2005 and 2030, not 2000 and 2030. In 2005, an estimated 400 million people in developing countries belonged to the global middle class. This clarification will be reflected online, but not in the printed reports.
