This Report was prepared by the Development Prospects Group (Volume I) and the Development Data Group (Volume II) of the Development Economics Vice Presidency and drew on resources throughout the World Bank Group. The task managers and principal authors of the Report were Mustapha Nabli and William Shaw, with direction from Uri Dadush. The Report was initiated under the general direction of Joseph Stiglitz, former Chief Economist and Senior Vice President.
Mustapha Nabli is currently the Chief Economist and Sector Director, Economic Management, Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank. From 1997-99, Mr. Nabli was Senior Economic Advisor in the Development Prospects Group and the principle author of the Global Economic Prospects 2001. Prior to joining the World Bank, Mr. Nabli was a Manager of the North Africa Bureau of Economic Studies, the Minister of Planning and Regional Development for the Government of Tunisia, President of the Tunis Stock Exchange, and a Professor at the University of Tunis. He holds a M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California.
William Shaw retired in 2004 as Lead Economist for the International Finance Team of the Development Prospects Group and is currently working with the group as the principal author of the Global Economic Prospects 2006 Report. He has also worked in Regional Operations on Bolivia, Tanzania, and private sector development issues in the Caribbean. Prior to joining the Bank, Mr. Shaw worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Shaw holds a Ph.D. from George Washington University.
Gholam Azarbayejani
Dipak Dasgupta is currently Sector Manager in the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank. From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Dasgupta was Principle and then Lead Economist in the Development Prospects Group. He holds an M.A. in Economics from Cambridge University and a PH.D. in Economics, International Trade and Finance from Cambridge University.
