Prevalence of HIV Sub-Saharan Africa remains the center of the epidemic, but the proportion of adults living with aids has begun to fall even as the survival rate of those with access to antiretroviral drugs has increased. In Africa 58 percent of the adults with HIV/AIDS are women. The region with the next highest prevalence rate is Latin America and the Caribbean, where one-half of one percent of adults are infected.
