primary completion rate
In 2009 87 percent of children in developing countries completed primary school. In most regions school enrollments picked up after the MDGs were promulgated in 2000, when the completion rate stood at 80 percent. Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, which started out farthest behind, have continued to make substantial progress but will still fall short of the goal. The Middle East and North Africa has stalled at completion rates of around 90 percent, while Europe and Central Asia and East Asia and the Pacific are within striking distance but have made little progress in the last 5 years.
